The Rules of Neckties: Rule 1: Buy Neckties that Make Good Knots

Many people ask me how to select a good necktie.  They ask, "What is really that different from any tie in a store, or online?"  When so many ties claim to have 100% silk (which will be the subject of a subsequent post), how can one really tell the difference?  In a series of blog posts that I've named "The Rules of Neckties," I'll talk about what really makes a quality necktie....quality.

Rule 1: Buy Neckties that Make Good Knots

When selecting and tying a good knot, it is important that the tie has a good thickness, good weight, and proper tapering.  Plus, it helps to know how to tie more than one knot.  I consider the most important aspect of selecting a good tie knowing that it has thick, quality interlining and quality silk.  As I mentioned above, not all silk is created equally.  Third, if your tie has a great design and ties an amazing knot, people will be found staring at your necktie.
